Carson Optical Company was founded in 1972 by Samuel and Agnes Carson. They are natives to Tampa and in 1947 they married. They have five children and three of their sons still carry on the legacy of Carson Optical.


Mark R. Carson is an experienced "Dispensing Optician". He was the first son to be with Carson Optical since it's conception in 1972. He received his Florida State license in 1975. A resident of Tampa since birth, he graduated from Tampa Catholic High School in 1973. Mark has enjoyed being a part of the community including past president of the Brandon 86 Rotary Club, and supporting other charitable organizations such as Center Place and the New Horizon group home in Brandon. He has been married for thirty years and has three grown children. Mark is a strong believer in the importance of family and the personal attention of the family business which characterizes his relationships with his customers. He enjoys fishing, traveling, spending time with his family and being a grill master.


Shawn Carson started working in the optical profession in 1972 while in high school. He worked part-time and on the weekends learning the family business. He graduated from Tampa Catholic High School in 1974. In 1975 he married his wife Patricia. They have four daughters and seven grandchildren. Shawn has been a licensed Dispensing Optician in the state of Florida since 1979. He is an active member in his church and the Knights of Columbus. He participates in his community with outreach projects for the needy. He has empathy for others and applies this humanity to his customers. He has a genuine interest in the vision needs of each person and believes with his many years of experience he can make a difference by serving each individual to the best of his ability.


Christopher Carson was born into the optical industry. After school and homework he would be at his father's office learning how to fabricate a pair of eyeglasses. In 1984 he left for San Francisco, California to continue his education and optical career. Receiving licenses from the American Board of Opticianry and the National Contact Lens Examiners, he managed two Site for Sore Eyes optical stores in San Francisco and Oakland California from 1986 to 1991. August 1991 he embarked on a humanitarian mission in the southern Philippines. Nov. 4, 1991, Tropical Storm Thelma reached the Philippines and devastated Ormoc City on the island of Leyte. Christopher worked with the Canossian Sisters, Daughters of Charity bringing it's emergency supplies to the people of Ormoc City. In 1992 he returned to Florida coming full circle, back working side by side with his family. Christopher has a genuine concern for people's wellbeing and needs. He is a accomplished cook, baker, and wine connoisseur.

Dr. Jon A. Bickoff, O.D. Doctor of Optometry

Dr. Bickoff is an experienced Optometrist, specializing in routine and problem-focused eye examinations, contact lens fittings, family, pediatric, and geriatric eye care, urgent eye care, and pre- and post-operative care. He has been a practicing Doctor of Optometry in the Tampa Bay area for over twenty-eight years. His philosophy of personal care through thorough quality eye exams and patient care is the hallmark of his practice.

A native of Illinois, Dr. Bickoff received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences, graduating cum laude from Southern Illinois University in 1978. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Visual Science in 1980 and Doctor of Optometry degree in 1982, both from Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. He interned and gained specialized clinical experience at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, IL.

Dr. Bickoff served as Optometrist and Naval Officer at Whidbey Island Naval Hospital in Oak Harbor, WA from 1982–1985. He also served as adjunct Clinical Professor for Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon during this time.

Dr. Bickoff is licensed for the practice of Optometry by the state examining boards of Florida and Washington and is board certified in Diagnostics and Therapeutics in both states.

Dr. Bickoff and his family moved from the Seattle area to Tampa in 1985. He has resided and practiced Optometry in Hillsborough County since that time and has been affiliated with Carson Optical for the past sixteen years.

Dr. Bickoff has been married for 38 years and has two grown children. He has volunteered his time over the years in the Tampa community and also enjoys sports, running, skiing, reading, and travel.
